There’s No Place Like Kona

 

Kona. You’d be hard pressed to find a place that has more meaning to the triathlon community. For most, Kona is a place of dreams, a lifelong goal to achieve, a journey to complete. For some, it’s been a career-maker; for others, it’s provided the setting for a triumphant comeback or bittersweet retirement.

Kona is synonymous with the aquamarine waters of Kailua Bay, the black lava fields that line the infamous Queen K, and the brutal heat of the Energy Lab. From the cannon start on Kailua Pier to the finish line celebration on Ali’i Drive that runs into the midnight hour, for a triathlete, there’s no place like Kona.
