About My Blog:
Welcome to Triple Threat Life! I’m Brittany Vermeer – a triathlete, writer, and photographer.
While the name “Triple Threat Life” pays homage to my triathlon roots, this blog is for more than just triathletes. It’s for all athletes and really anyone seeking inspiration and encouragement in their lives.
I don’t claim to be an expert, but I want to share the knowledge I’ve learned from so many others who have helped me along the way via triathlon tips, life lessons, product reviews, and even the occasional guest interview.
The mission of this blog is simple: to inspire, encourage, educate, and empower.
A bit about me:
- I’ve been a writer and photographer for 15+ years (I work with Triathlete Magazine, Outside Run, IRONMAN, ect.)
- 6 x 70.3 finisher, 1 x 140.6 finisher, 2 x 70.3 World Championship qualifier
- I have an incredible husband named Matt and a pup named Ellie Mae.
- My favorite sport is a toss up between cycling and swimming, but I’m starting to enjoy running too… sometimes.
- Well that Didn’t go as Planned… Chattanooga 70.3Well, the race did not go as planned. It was pretty bad, actually. But rarely is anything ever ALL bad, and that was the case with Chattanooga 70.3 The Good: Pre-race dinner and post-race celebration with my local tri club. Watching several friends complete their first 70.3. Enjoying the sights...
- The Hay is in the Barn + Taper Week ThoughtsGuess what? It's taper time! That's right. After a long, hard training block, we have finally reached taper week. As I write this, my husband, Matt, and I are T minus 6 days until the 2023 edition of Chattanooga 70.3. This will be my third time competing at the race and...
- Becoming One: The Journey BeginsMy heart is racing. A bead of sweat drips from my brow. Years of training have led to this point. Finally, the moment has come. I take a deep breath. With a click of the mouse that sounds like a cannon blast to my ears, I’ve signed up for my...
- Triathlon is a Game of Coping With Distractions“The part of our brain that thinks and talks is not the same part of the brain that moves the body. With quiet, your brain has the full capacity to devote to propelling you forward and to finding the flow state that has nothing to do with analyzing, calculating, or...
- Race Report: 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 North CarolinaWHAT A DAY! Sometimes you just have a feeling heading into a race, like everything is building up to something special. IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina was that race. A swim PR, a bike PR, a run PR, AND an open half-marathon PR all added up to an overall race PR...
- How to Avoid the Trap of “What If…” ThinkingDuring my swim workout this week, I had a “quality” swim set. 8 X 100. The goal was to swim 100 as fast as I could, and then maintain that pace for all the rest of the 100s. After my first 100, I stopped on the wall, and Matt asked...
- Blood, Sweat, Tears… and Mental ToughnessTriathlon is uniquely designed to test mental toughness. As athletes, we endure the physical demands of training. We push our bodies to the limits, achieve milestones, rehab through injuries, set new goals, and repeat. But focus rarely centers of the mental side of the sport. • The pressure of competition...
